Visual Client
Overview
The Visual Client is the main day-to-day app for Kimura SCM. It connects to a Kimura server and lets teams work in a shared workspace model with clear history and coordination.
After KimuraSCM is installed, start the Visual Client by running the kvc executable from a terminal or by selecting Kimura Visual Client from the Windows Start menu. The installer also creates shortcuts for the application.
In practice, it is built to keep large team work moving: you can see current workspace state quickly, understand team activity before conflicts grow, and move work from local edits to reviewable submit units without losing context.
Use the Visual Client to create and manage workspaces, make file operations, group work into change lists, submit to the server, and create or retrieve a stash when you need to pause or hand off work.
When you use it
Use the Visual Client for regular production work where visibility is critical: what changed locally, what is not at latest revision, who is actively working on files, and where locks may affect your next step.
This visibility-first workflow is especially useful in large, shared workspaces where many users touch the same assets.
What you can do here
The Visual Client surfaces the full Kimura SCM workflow, from daily workspace operations to advanced mapping and administration tools.
Most teams use these features most often:
- Create and switch between workspaces
- Edit files and track pending work in Workspace changes
- Organize work into change lists and submit
- Resolve pending edits against newer revisions with merge resolution sessions
- Use reconcile tabs to identify differences that may require action
- Create or restore stashes to pause, resume, or hand off in-progress work
- Review History to inspect revisions and team activity
- Manage repository links (repository map) and ignore rules
If your role includes admin permissions, you can also open administration tools directly from the client.
